How to Clean Waiting Room Toys

by Hugh Martin on 2008-04-02 10:57:03 - Email This

General Care Instructions by Category
Please read A - D to find the type of product you need to clean and the appropriate method.

A) GENERAL PURPOSE CLEANSER or SOAP & WATER
Clean natural and painted wood, laminate, solid colored plastic, painted metal pieces and vinyl coverings with a general purpose cleanser such as 10:1 water and bleach solution, Fantastic or soap & water applied to a damp sponge, then wipe dry with a cloth.

B) PLEDGE FURNITURE POLISH
Clean see-thru plastic components (clear or color) and mirrors with Pledge, not glass cleaners.  Wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth.   Mirrors are acrylic plastic, not glass (for safety).

C) SOAP & WATER or ACETONE or ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL or SOLVENT
Clean the black thermal section of a Touch'N'See toy (Handprints, Ocean, Dino Dig) with mild soap & water applied on a damp sponge, then immediately dry -- do not let any liquids sit on the thermal surface or they will get absorbed and ruin the panel.

Clean the colored plastic frame following "A" instructions, do not wipe with acetone, isopropyl alcohol or solvent.

Remove difficult dirt from the thermal panel: apply a small amount of solvent to a clean cloth, wipe on and immediately dry.
Crayon: isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol or De-Solv-It multi-purpose solvent.
Gum: acetone

D) VACUUM ETC.
Flooring: Clean rubber floor mats weekly by vacuuming on a high setting or wash with a solution of 10:1 water/bleach or PineSol, and once a year you can power wash.  Clean carpeting by vacuuming; deep clean with professional carpet cleaners.

E) DON'T USE
Never use abrasive cleaners, window cleaning fluids, scouring compounds, spray waxes, gritty cloths, or strong solvents such as carbon tetrachloride, acetone or alcohol (unless stated).

Better Waiting Room Toys, brought to you by...

by Hugh Martin on 2007-09-18 16:24:26 - Email This

WAITING ROOM TOYS and FURNITURE imported from China and other Asian countries are not eco-friendly, and are less durable. The problems: glued-on plastic edges that collect dirt and can be picked off; unprotected wood and cheap finishes and decals that deteriorate easily; thin surfaces that can't hold mirrored material, hardware, and beaded play wires safely; exposed exterior hardware that children can pick-off; noisy activities that will annoy staff and visitors, difficult play activities that many children won't enjoy, challenging games that exclude children with special physical or cognitive needs.

Our products are made in the U.S. of A. and made to be durable and SAFE.

Planning your lobby ahead of time

by Hugh Martin on 2007-06-07 07:58:29 - Email This

I am finding more and more that companies, besides clinics and hospitals, are thinking about children in their lobbies during planning and construction of new buildings.  Instead of being an afterthought, Waiting Room Toys are now part of the space planning process for the lobby.

These features can often extend beyond toys to kid's furniture, play mats, kid's bookshelves and 'fun' audio/visual cabinets.

It sure is a good idea to plan for these items instead of cramming them in afterwards.  You will also make a great impression on whoever comes in after you open when they see that you have taken THEIR children into consideration.

Kuddo's on the forethought!

Why use Waiting Room Toys

by Hugh Martin on 2007-05-17 18:53:58 - Email This

...instead of just any old toy?

There are quite a number of reasons actually, but let's run through a few of them quickly.

  1. Non-removable parts.  Safer for the children; better investment for your business; saves embarrassment for the parents.
  2. Multi-user designs.  So many of the toys you'll see in our catalog are designed for more than one child to use at one time.  Who needs screaming and hitting over one toy?
  3. Safer materials.  These toys and games are designed to be placed in hospital waiting rooms and the like.  They strive to use safe wood, paint, hardware and accessories so little hands and mouths are protected as best as possible.  This also goes to surfaces that are Antimicrobial or at least can be disinfected completely.
  4. Mountable.  This refers to the ability of many of the toys to be secured to walls or floors.
  5. Stimulating.  Our toys are not just to entertain, but are also to help young children develop: Social interaction, Hand-Eye coordination, Imagination, Communication, Problem Solving skills, Analytical skills, Motor skills and much more.

Fun Waiting Room = More Referrals

by Hugh Martin on 2007-04-01 09:46:42 - Email This

I found this included in an article, "How to Build Referral Programs", on morebusiness.com, which is a website for entrepreneurs.

They listed a number of steps you can take in your business for generating referrals from your existing customers, but this one below was of practical interest for this site.

"Another way to get referrals is to offer a unique experience that no one else offers. If all other doctors' waiting rooms are boring and filled with old magazines, your waiting room should be a fun place to go with free babysitting and snacks and entertainment and maybe it should look like a café rather than an institutional room."

It's very true when you think about it.  When you walk into your office each morning, are you impressed and proud of your waiting room or is it blah and stale?  If you can create some "Wow!" to your waiting room, it'll get around because when your customers/patients leave, someone is bound to ask, "How'd it go at the ________?"
